Young Maple Ridge lacrosse star Reegan Comeault was the first pick overall - taken by the new Langley Thunder franchise - at the Midget free-agent lacrosse draft in Port Coquitlam, Sunday.
111 young lacrosse players, graduating from midget were taken by the eight BC Junior A Lacrosse League teams.
Reegan - along with several of his Ridge Meadows Midget A teammates and the others from Langley, Abbotsford and Mission Minor - will be invited to join the South Fraser Stickmen Intermediate A team which is based in Abbotsford and operated by the Langley Thunder Jr. A franchise.
Thunder President and league governor Joe Willmott, assisted by General Manager Brock Rose, Director of Player Personnel Kelly Scott and Head Coach Jamie Scott selected a total of 18 players throughout the 17 round draft.
As he looked over the newest members of the Thunder organization, Willmott said he was 'extremely pleased' with the list. He added, "We are disappointed that we weren't able to get two or three of the young players on our list - but perhaps they'll find their way to us in the future."
Comeault is a right-handed marksman who led his Maple Ridge midgets in 2008 with 79 points in 19 games. He was named MVP of the BC Midget championship tournament and was also named to the All-star team while representing British Columbia at the national midget tournament in Calgary. There he scored 10 points - distributed evenly between goals and assists.
