The Coquitlam Adanacs beat the Burnaby Lakers by a score of 8-5 at the Coquitlam Sports Complex last night and despite going into the game atop the BCJALL standings and being ranked the number one team in Canada by Lacrosse Talk Magazine, after beating the Lakers the A's can finally admit they deserve the recognition.

There is an 18 point difference between the Coquitlam Adanacs and the South Fraser Stickmen in the BCJALL standings; Thursday's game was widely predicted to be a blowout. After losing their last two games by close scores to Port Coquitlam, the Stickmen came into this game desperate for a win, even against the number two team in the league.

Two games took up the latter half of my Sunday afternoon this weekend. I finally got my chance to see Nanaimo play when they took on Coquitlam, and then buzzed over to Bill Copeland to see the Saints play the Lakers. Nanaimo, Coquitlam, and Poco were all coming off wins, and the Lakers were looking to gain some points after their loss to the Timbermen on Friday.

The last time these two teams met it was an 11-1 blowout for the A's and the game would spell the eventual end for the Stickmen's head coach. Since that game the A's have gone 3-0 and South Fraser is 0-5. Tonight would be either a game of redemption for the Stickmen, or a repeat performance.

Walking into Queens Park Arena to see the 'Bellies host the Lakers transported me back to the Minto Cup Tournament last August. Just like I saw at the Minto, tonight I was expecting a physical match-up between these teams. Even the chair I was sitting on could sense the rivalry between these teams.

From my seat behind the penalty box, both teams were playing safe ball in the first. Not a lot of penalties or physical play in general.

The PoCo Saints annual Alumni Game will take on a different colour this year - pink. The Junior A Lacrosse Club alumi players will don pink jerseys for the annual 7 p.m. alumni game April 28th at the PoCo Recreational Centre.
The net proceeds from the $7 admission and all proceeds from auctioning the signed 'game-worn' pink jerseys will go to the Canadian Cancer Society to support the battle against breast cancer.
