| Six Nations Punishes Miners at Minto |
| August 27, 2007 |
|
Coming off their disappointing loss against hosts New West on Saturday, the Six Nations Arrows came out hungry against Edmonton.
The Arrows first two shots from Jason Jones and Lee Thomas both resulted in markers to give Six Nations the jump they were hoping for. Edmonton goalie Dave Marrese looked a little shaky in net to start. After the Arrows fifth goal from Lucas Miller shot, the Miners brought in Trevor Van Bavel to try and get back on two feet.
Edmonton was held to a score of 6-0 until five minutes into the second when Joe Lehman managed to throw in a short handed goal with a great pass from Cam Ritchie. The Miners just couldn’t catch a break in the second, hitting post after post. Nate Schmidt managed to sneak one past Ben Van Every, and Lehman threw in another; but with four goals from Cody Jamieson alone in the second- the Arrows were too far ahead.
The third frame saw more emotion rather than hard play from both teams, Six Nations cruising to their win- adding goals from Lee Thomas and Mitch Nanticoke for insurance; Edmonton taking a couple of minor penalties and looking very frustrated.
The four goals from Jamieson (earning him Six Nations game MVP), three from Shawn Evans, and deuces from Nanticoke and Lee Thomas made the Arrows look like the team we all have been hearing about.
Once again the combination of Cody Jamieson and Shawn Evans proved to be the puzzle to crack. But Six Nations isn’t in the clear yet; tomorrow they face the BC champs and familiar Minto Cup opponent- the Burnaby Lakers. Jamieson says the bigger players in the west might cause a little trouble, “bigger boys make a bigger defense, it’s a lot more physical for us but we’re going to play hard tomorrow”
Game time is at 7:30 at Queens Park in New West.
