Stickmen announce new Executive
December 29, 2006
President and Governor Joe Willmott today announced significant changes to the makeup of the executive and management of the Surrey Stickmen Junior A Lacrosse Club.

"This is the first year of a long term plan to create an organization than will be competitive year in and year out at the local and national levels." Willmott said. He added, "We want to establish solid relationships with the local minor lacrosse associations and the business community and the new executive reflects this initiative."

Both the Junior A and Intermediate A clubs finished at the bottom of their respective leagues in 2006.

At their recent annual general meeting, the membership re-elected Joe Willmott as President who will also serve as a League Governor and Beverley Hoffmann as Secretary/Treasurer. Paul Sparrow, who has a background in sports marketing and is a volunteer with Surrey Minor Lacrosse was elected First Vice-President and will serve as the General Manager; Kelly Scott who stepped down as Head Coach due to work travel commitments was elected Second Vice-President and will serve as Director of Player Personnel; John Eitel, a successful businessman and former player will join the executive along with Bev Matushewski who was instrumental in the remarkable turnaround in the popularity of minor lacrosse in South Surrey and White Rock; and Kerry Ballantine, a successful businessman and long-time lacrosse organization volunteer.

Mr. Willmott also announced the appointment of Brock Rose who has held management positions with Senior Lacrosse teams and has served on the Senior Directorate for BCLA, as Assistant General Manager; and Ken Polson who led the Semiahmoo Intermediate B team to a silver medal in the 2006 Provincial Championships as Manager of the Intermediate A team. Head coaches for both the Junior A and Intermediate A teams are being interviewed and Mr. Willmott expects to make an announcement soon.
