Focused A's Get Job Done
May 6, 2009
As far as an 'all around' game is concerned, the BCJALL Game of the Week for week 3 was definitely one of the best offensive, defensive, transitional, goaltending, set play, intensive, and physical games I've seen in quite some time. The fans left Queens Park searching their programs for the next meeting between these two teams.

The Adanacs had two more additions to their line up; the much anticipated arrival of Trevor Moore and Corbyn Tao are fresh off their season with the Robert Morris University Colonials, where they finished first and second in team scoring (respectively) and helped RMU to the best season in team history. Moore was acquired by Coquitlam from Port Coquitlam this summer, and Tao (a Coquitlam native) has spent the last three seasons with the Six Nations Arrows.

From the opening face-off the tone was set for the rest of the game- an all out battle in all areas. Moore and Tao both started their season in the BCJALL with goals in the first frame to go along with two big ones from teammate Travis Cornwall. This offensive onslaught was enough to keep New West to their one goal from Travis Irving.

Realizing after who they were up against after twenty minutes New West sprang into action in the second, threw five more goals past Dan Lewis, and added a little more physical play against the A's. Eric Lewthwaite and Brandon Goodwin would both score 2 in the second, and Ryan Mackay would capitalize on a 5 on 3 power play opportunity for the 'Bellies. Even with the five goal pressure from New West, the A's would counter in the middle frame; Cornwall finished his hat trick, Intermediate call up Colton Dow would beat Neil Tyacke, and Marty Dinsdale finally got a goal after hitting a couple of posts and having very high energy shifts.

Salmonbellie Eric Lewthwaite one times it at Coquitlam tender Dan Lewis as he hits the hat trick mark on the night.

After two periods the score remained tight with the A's holding their lead by a score of 8-6, and New West opened the third with a sense of urgency. Leif Mydske caught Dan Lewis in a moment of distraction to pull the 'Bellies within one, but after a check from behind and roughing penalty the momentum would shift to the Adanacs and not return to New West. Jordan Weir would convert the only power play goal for the A's, and even after a fairly ridiculous 'delay of game' call against Corbyn Tao for shooting the ball after the whistle had blown, Dinsdale would put Coquitlam into double digit scoring.

When it came down to it, the Adanacs seemed to have a bit more stamina than the Salmonbellies, especially when it came to the third period. A huge part of the success for the A's was their sixth man on the floor Dan Lewis, who after tonight's performance sits as the top goalie in the BCJALL with a save percentage of 84.38% over three games. Lewis was confident for the full sixty minutes and had no problem coming out of his net to handle the ball. His quick thinking and smart stick gave Coquitlam a fast transition and a sense of comfort that if the defence had a non-characteristic slip up, Lewis had it handled. From the stands it looked as if Coquitlam's team confidence started at the back and worked its way up, all the way to the other end of the floor and in the back of New West's net.
