| Junior Goal Nets Go Larger |

Just what every goalie wants to see, larger goal nets. But that is what is coming to Junior A lacrosse for the 2009 season. The Board of Governors approved the larger nets for the 2009 season at their monthly meetings in September.
The Jr goal nets will now go to 4 foot 6 inches wide exactly the same as the Senior A (WLA) nets. As well the Board of Governors approved that goalies will be able to use wooden goaltending sticks, reversing a decision made earlier.
The movement to larger nets was not done just to increase goal scoring, the intention is to help develop the goalies as much as the Junior league develops defenders and goal scorers.
Now that the Senior A ranks of lacrosse across Canada have moved to the 4’6” nets some goalies have found it difficult to move to the senior ranks, with the larger nets a young netminder will have up to 3 years of experience with the 4’6” nets to develop themselves for a smoother transition into their senior lacrosse career.
